Reed

Reed (リード) is a supporting character in Suikoden III. He is a calm man working as Lilly Pendragon's attendant, and his composed nature allows him to accept his employer's whimsical attitude. He is currently in Harmonia with Lilly, after failing his mission to dissuade her to travel there.

Biography

An officer in the army of the Tinto Republic, Reed served as an attendant to Lilly Pendragon, the daughter of Tinto President, Gustav Pendragon. Reed, along with his fellow attendant, Samus, served Lilly, travelling with her to Grassland in order to investigate attacks on Tinto merchants led by someone claiming to be the Flame Champion. Subjected to Lilly's whims, Reed dreadfully found their short journey to the Grassland turning into a protracted stay only punctuated with a brief return to Tinto to gather funds.

An exceptionally calm man, Reed was rarely angered save for when anybody would make fun of his hair. However, the one exception to this is when Lilly herself makes fun of him. He is also said to be cute when troubled.

When the Second Fire Bringer War began, Reed, along with Samus and Lilly, joined the Fire Bringer to defend the region from attack. Unlike Samus, Reed keeps his displeasure with Lilly's attitude mostly to himself, being content to do what he can to prevent the spoilt first daughter's tantrums behind the scenes, such as sending placating messages to those Lilly has offended. During the war, Reed began to miss traditional Tinto food, requesting that it be added to the Budehuc Castle menu. Reed enjoyed the theatre and once burst into tears at the end of "The Match Girl", a story played there, for added embarrassment.

Following the Second Fire Bringer War, Reed was ordered by Marlowe Cody, now a minister in the Tinto Republic, to dissuade Lilly from her plans to travel to the Holy Kingdom of Harmonia. However, somehow, he ended up accompanying the strong-willed young lady along with Samus to Crystal Valley. His fate, it is said, is always to be controlled by Lilly's selfishness.
