Pilika

Pilika (ピリカ) is a supporting character in Suikoden II. The rescuer of Jowy after his fateful dive from the cliffs of Tenzan Pass, Pilika's life became highly marked by the Dunan Unification War, losing her parents during Luca Blight's assault on Toto, which rendered her mute. She currently lives in the Holy Kingdom of Harmonia with Jillia Blight, one of her guardians following her parents' deaths.

Biography

Had it not been for Pilika, Jowy would have certainly drowned after he jumped from the cliffs of Tenzan Pass with Riou after the massacre of the Unicorn Brigade. While Riou was under the constant supervision of Viktor and Flik at the Mercenary Fortress near Ryube, Jowy recovered in Pilika’s village of Toto where her parents looked after the wounded soldier. In order to thank Pilika for her hospitality, Jowy (with Riou) journeyed to Muse to purchase a Wooden Amulet that Pilika wanted to buy her father for his upcoming birthday.

Unfortunately, Toto was attacked by Luca Blight and his Highland soldiers during the trip to Muse. Pilika was one of the only survivors of the massacre and even witnessed the death of her parents. Riou and Jowy took Pilika to the Mercenary Fort where she was once again placed in another traumatizing situation, this time in the presence of Luca Blight himself. Although she escaped with her life, Pilika was rendered mute, save the ability to use her vocal cords to cry ferociously.

Following the attacks of both Toto and Viktor’s Mercenary Fort, Pilika was placed under the supervision of Riou, Jowy, and Nanami, but this familial structure was broken apart after Jowy assassinated the mayor of Muse, Lady Anabelle. After Jowy’s traitorous deed, Riou and Nanami found themselves the guardians of Pilika and watched over her for much of the Dunan Unification War.

Luca Blight was eventually killed following a night campaign gone horrible awry. Highland immediately established a peace conference in Muse that Riou and Teresa Wisemail agreed to attend. Realizing that the conference was a trap, Shu commanded Riou to take Pilika to Muse where she fulfilled her role as a human shield from Highland arrows as Riou escaped. In the presence of Jowy, Pilika finally recovered the ability to speak.

Jowy and Jillia Blight became Pilika’s guardians in the later half of the Dunan Unification War, protecting her from all harm. However, after the fall of L'Renouille, Pilika was ordered by Jowy to flee to Harmonia where he had set up a house for both of them as he traveled the world with his reunited friends, Riou and Nanami.
