Percival Fraulein (パーシヴァル・フロイライン) is a supporting character in Suikoden III. One of the Six Mighty Knights of the Zexen Confederacy, Percival has fought in both the Second Fire Bringer War as well as the Tinto-Zexen War.

Biography

Percival is one of the most dashing heartthrobs in all of Zexen, with fan clubs stretching from his home village of Iksay to Brass Castle and the capital, Vinay del Zexay. Though Percival has a fan club in each place, the numbers of squealing girls are more prominent in Brass Castle since it is the headquarters of the Zexen Knights. Percival is a ladies' gentleman, reserved at work, clever, and hardworking. Zexen ladies adore him and children even talked about being like him when they grow up. A man from a humble origin, Percival applied to be a knight and worked his way up the ranks and eventually received knighthood. Due to these achievements, no one would ever think that he cooks! Better yet, his mother affectionately calls him “Percy”.

He is the undisputed champion in horseback riding among the knights, thus earning the title “Swordsman of Gale”. He spends his free time at the horse track when he's not drinking with his companions, namely Borus Redrum and Leo Galan. Although he doesn’t have Leo’s brute strength, or Borus’ swordplay, he is quite talented in runes, an area where both of his compatriots are lacking. Percival's signature rune is the Water Rune, which he likely uses to replenish the strength of his battle company during their many battles in the Grasslands.

He was one of the few knights who accepted Chris Lightfellow from her time as a squire. During the Zexen Foundation Day Ball where Chris got into a fight with Lilly Pendragon, Percival helped Chris escape the mess. He also supported Chris as the new captain following the death of Captain Galahad. Unlike some of the other knights, Percival doesn't follow Chris around like an obedient puppy. Deeply worried for his captain’s health after her fall, he suggested they both visit his hometown of Iksay where a Harvest Festival was to be held. Though Chris and Percival attended the festival, their relaxation was short-lived because the Lizard Clan attacked the village. Some time after the Lizards withdrew, a very angry Borus interrogated Percival, asking why he brought the captain to such a lowly village.

During the Second Fire Bringer War, Percival was primarily involved more with Zexen affairs than fighting against the Grassland clans. He and Leo were initially left at Vinay del Zexay where they had a fight with the Karayan heir, Hugo. Percival and Leo would have caught Hugo were it not for Fubar's successful rescue efforts. Percival was then sent to Budehuc Castle by the Zexen Council to forcibly escort Thomas, the new castle lord, back to Vinay del Zexay. However, Percival's loyalty was not with the council, and since he had a inkling that Salome Harras was planning measures against the Council, he intentionally failed to complete the council's orders.

Later on, Percival joined the Fire Bringer along with Chris and the other Zexen Knights until the end of the war. After the war concluded, he continued serving Zexen, but not as a knight. Instead, he went back to Iksay and considered farming. He was later involved in the Zexen-Tinto Border Clash that followed three years later.

Trivia

  • Percival's weapon (Sword) upgrades as: Einst, Ghegenwelt, Zukenft. Somewhat poorly-translated from German, these words should mean "past", "present" (Gegenwart), "future" (Zukunft).
  • Percival's surname, Fraulein, literally translates as “young woman / miss” in German. In the Suikoden world only those with high status gain a surname and since he is a commoner from Iksay, it is believed that he obtained his surname through his position as one of the Six Knights of Zexen.
  • Percival was a Knight of the Round Table in the Arthur Legends. He was one of the select few to get to see the Holy Grail with his own eyes.
