Kasumi

Kasumi (カスミ) is a supporting character from Suikoden I and Suikoden II who also makes a cameo in Suikogaiden Volume 2. A ninja from the village of Rokkaku, she aided the Toran Liberation Army after the army of Teo McDohl destroyed the village. Following the war, she was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the commune as well as ambassador to the Toran Republic.

Biography

Kasumi is a young female ninja from Rokkaku whom Tir McDohl encountered at the Liberation Army’s stronghold prior to Teo McDohl’s first assault. She is undoubtedly one of the most loyal ninja in the Suikoden series as seen in her dedication to Hanzo, Tir McDohl, and later Riou. After the siege of Gregminster, Kasumi was once again reunited with Hanzo, whom she thought perished after Rokkaku’s destruction.

Although a young and nervous recruit during the Liberation War, Kasumi became Vice-Chancellor of Rokkaku following the rebuilding of the ninja village. In 460, upon Riou's request, Kasumi was asked by President Lepant of the Toran Republic to command the Toran troops that would be sent to Dunan to help fight Luca Blight’s onslaught. Following the defeat of the Highland Kingdom and the end of the Dunan Unification War, she returned to Rokkaku.

Unfortunately for someone as successful and beautiful as Kasumi, she is horrible with male relationships. She developed a crush on Tir McDohl, but was incapable of telling him. In fact, even though she encountered Tir again during the Dunan Unification War, she barely mustered enough courage to say a word. If this weren’t enough, Sasuke also had a massive crush on Kasumi. She apparently was the only one who couldn't see these attractions which resulted in occasional wisecracks from Mondo.

Trivia

• Kasumi means "Mist" in Japanese.
• Suikoden II forces you to pick between her or Valeria, you cannot get both characters without some sort of game-hack. Interestingly, depending on who you choose, Tomo's star will be different.
• Kasumi changes weapons between Suikoden I and II. She goes from a L-range star-thrower, to an S-range claw fighter, although her weapon names do not change, oddly.
