Borus Redrum (ボルス・レッドラム) is a supporting character in Suikoden III. A member of the Six Mighty Knights of the Zexen Confederacy, Borus actively served in several battles for his country, including the Second Fire Bringer War and the Tinto-Zexen War.

Biography

Percival Fraulein may be the champ in horseback riding among the Six Mighty Knights, but Borus is the champion swordfighter. Borus' reputation as the best swordsman among the Zexen Knights is legendary, thus earning him the title 'Swordsman of Rage'. Borus and Percival developed into a powerful and effective fighting pair on the battlefield.

Borus came from a wealthy family and recievied everything he wanted as a child; this led Borus to grow up as a naïve and spoiled child. As an adult, he became deeply involved in the Zexen military.

After the death of Captain Galahad and Vice-Captain Pelize during the clash with the Lizard and Karaya Clans, Borus remained loyal to the Zexen flag and followed Chris Lightfellow as captain of the Zexen Knights. It was hinted that Borus feels deeply for his captain like every knight under her care.

During the peace treaty, the Grasslanders attacked the Zexen Knights having thought that the Silver Maiden killed the Lizard Clan Chief, Zepon. Borus was angered by the ambush; Salome Harras calmed him by suggesting they raid the Karayan Village to escape the ambush. He, Roland Lazarus and Chris Lightfellow followed the suggestion. However, upon entering the village, the sorceress, Sarah, cast a spell on Borus, blinding him with rage. He not only burned the village to the ground, but also killed innocent villagers. He was later woken from the spell after battling Geddoe.

Borus was severely disgusted by his actions; heavy hearted, he confessed to Percival what he had done in the village. His companion assured him that he would have done the same if he were in the same position. Borus replied that a person who committed acts such as those was not a man but an animal.

Borus decided to atone for his sins by joining the Fire Bringer and fought alongside with the Zexens, the Grassslanders, and reinforcements from Tinto, Budehuc Castle and the Free Knights of Camaro. He was tormented by his sins until the war ended. Borus had some difficulty in adjusting to his life at Budehuc Castle, criticising the young Flame Champion Hugo for seeming to mix with rough people, and telling him that a leader needed dignity. He encouraged Hugo to look towards Chris Lightfellow for a model to follow in this area. A large fan of Chris' acting, Borus also encouraged Hugo to see Chris' acting in a play, praising her abilities and saying that her skills showed that there was no wonder why she was the leader of the Zexen Knights; an unpopular opinion, especially considering that Chris herself had said that she was no actor. He was also impressed by the castle guard's skills, and said that they were good fighters and that he would like to have a match with them. He also enjoyed drinking like his comrades Leo Galan and Percival. In fact, Kidd, the Budehuc Castle detective, revealed that Borus collects rare wines and keeps them in his wine cellar at home.

Borus also contacted Chris often, asking that, if his family should ask about him, that she should tell them that he was doing alright. He also encouraged her not to feel guilty for the tragedy of Yun's death, and that it was a true pity that it had happened. He even invited Chris to sample some of his great wine.

Following the war, Borus continued on with his duties as a Zexen Knight and was actively involved in the Tinto-Zexen border clash together with Leo in 478, three years after the defeat of the Destroyers.

Trivia

  • Borus' weapon (Sword) upgrades as: Eins, Zwei, Drei. German for "one", "two", "three". Borus is the runner-up to Nalkul for the "least-inspired weapon-names" contest.
  • A variant for Borus is the name "Boris" whose origin is Russian and Slavic and means 'battle glory'.
  • Spelled backwards, Borus's last name spells out "murder".
  • If Geddoe is selected as Flame Champion, Borus will send a letter to the comment box complaining about how he doesn't like Jacques even though Borus respects his skills because Jacques ignores him; Borus asks Geddoe if he can remind Jacques to be more polite.
  • During one of Geddoe's chapters, Queen and Aila will be accosted by Borus and some Zexen knights while walking about Vinay del Zexay at night. If the player makes the wrong choice, they will be forced to fight Borus and his knights with only two characters. This is a very difficult, if not impossible win situation. It's much easier to select the option to "run away".
